What is DAM?
What is Digital Asset Management?
Digital files—assets—are everywhere: on hard drives, network servers, even shelves of storage media. Searching through thousands or millions of files in these locations can take a long time, and provide poor results if any. Digital Asset Management (DAM) is a discipline to organise, categorise, search, retrieve and archive digital files, such as images, documents, creative files, audio and video clips. These digital files are referred to as assets because a significant amount of time, effort and expense goes into creating content, thus making the files valuable resources.
However, the value of these assets can only be truly realized if they are accessible by everyone who needs them, when they need them. DAM provides the ability to tag files with key information (metadata) to help you organize and retrieve relevant assets when you need them. Additionally, Digital Asset Management should provide tools for sharing and converting so everyone gets what they need, when they need it. Portfolio and DAM Portfolio is a scalable solution, built for libraries of a few thousand to tens of millions of assets.
Portfolio stores all file types (images, graphics, videos, text, etc.) in their highest quality formats and allows users to quickly convert them on-the-fly. Different client applications allow editors, creatives, and managers easy access to assets based on their usage. Portfolio allows uploading assets from mobile devices, so users don’t have to wait for someone to return to the office before they can start working.
